It is often necessary (or desirable) to obtain a sleep study to determine if a patient suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Traditionally, these studies have been done in specialized sleep laboratories designed to resemble hotel rooms. These attended sleep studies provide comprehensive information about a patient's sleep. Unfortunately, these tests are too inconvenient and expensive for many patients - particularly when the risk of sleep apnea is perceived to be low.

Using the newest technology, we can now often obtain the necessary information with a home based sleep study. These tests are less expensive, more convenient, and, because they are done at home, may allow for a more representative night's sleep. Patients undergoing home based sleep studies bring home a simple device which is worn to bed for one night. The device is returned, the data downloaded and analyzed, and an appropriate diagnosis is made.
